Our club,
Shoot the Breeze formed on November 16, 1999.
May of 2000, we permanently installed the DGC in Lake Shore Park, Ashtabula. A
major goal accomplished!
In year 2001, we reached our goal of paying for all of the
baskets with the generous help of many wonderful sponsors!
We look forward to
making many improvements to an already great and beautiful disc golf
course, such as cement tee pads at every tee - DONE! Benches and trash
receptacles. Maybe even some hooks for our bags!
We had held four events, in 1998, prior to forming into an official
club. We held several events including the 1998 World's Biggest
Disc Golf Event (the FIRST time I had EVER played!) a glow
tournament and an event to raise money towards a family in need.
Besides these things, we participated in the 2000 and 2001 World's
Biggest Disc Golf Event, we held our first ever PDGA sanctioned event, a
C-tier Tournament, part of the Can/Am Series in June, 2001, the
"Shoot the Breeze Open" and our annual fall tourney.
We've held weekly scrambles, team leagues play,
spring and fall leagues play, introducing many people to this very cool
sport.
We again enjoyed hosting our yearly events- including our
"B" tier event, the
CAN/AM series, our STB Open, and last year's World's Biggest Disc Golf
Event. With the inception of Pine Lane 9-hole disc golf course in
Springfield, we were able to, for the first time, participate in the
annual "Ice Bowl".
Now our course is a YEAR ROUND course, we are able to have
an Ice Bowl Event every winter.
We
look forward to this year hosting our Can/Am event, the 2008 Discraft STB
Open, a two day event held the first week-end in June annually at Lake Shore Park
disc golf course.
Also the World's Biggest Disc Golf Weekend, our Summer handicap
League, the "Sticky Fingers" D Tiered event scheduled to
coincide with the Lake Shore Park Rib Cook-off and our weekly singles
set for Sundays this next season at 10:00 am and scrambles following at
1:00 pm. We also plan to be a part
of the 2008 Ice-Bowl here, at Lake Shore park, benefiting "Meals On
Wheels" of Ashtabula County. We have just last year become a YEAR ROUND
course! Our baskets will not be pulled for the winter!
I can say
that I am very proud to be a part of this group of fun and dedicated
people who love disc golf- all we really want to do is play the game. We
have just celebrated our ninth year anniversary since the inception of our
club. We've come a long way thanks to the efforts of our dedicated
members!

How did
you learn about the game?
I was asked to join Mike and
his brother, Tom, in a game in Harpersfield , a course Tom had set up in
the woods by a covered bridge. I envisioned tromping thru the woods
(mud) throwing Frisbees at targets (?). I had seen a target about 15
years prior in a wooded area in South Carolina, but had no idea what it
was. I figured it must be part of some ritual or ceremony of some sort.
I guess I was right about that...
Who introduced you to the game?
My
#1 Fan, Michael Mote.
How long have
you been playing?
Mike bought a World's Biggest
entry for me in 1998 at Lake Shore Park. First time I ever played, a
year later from his first attempt at getting me to play. I loved
it and have been playing ever since.
Do you play
tournaments, which are your favorites?
The Discraft Shoot the Breeze
Open.
What is your favorite disc- the one you cannot
play without!
I have always loved my Cyclone, my Avair and my Lake Shore Park
XD
What's in
your bag?

Cyclone, Aviars, Rhino, Magnet, Valkerie, Teebird,
Eagle, XD, Valkery, Roc, 150 class.

How did
you learn about the game?
I heard of it through a friend in the service, who was playing in
Sacramento, California.
Who
introduced you to the game?
His name was Rodney Raub.
How long have you been playing?
I played my first time with Whamo Frisbees in the Winter of 1986-87, in
Sacramento California.
Do you play tournaments, which are your favorites?
Yes, I play and enjoy tournaments. I have often been in the DFL club
(Dead Friggin' Last), but I don't have the sense to let that deter me.
As for favorites, that is hard to choose, because I truly love them all,
since I am playing my favorite sport.
What is your favorite disc- the one you cannot
play without!
That would have to be my XD. I can always use different drivers, and
different putters, but when I need an approach disc, I always reach for
the trusty XD.
What's in your bag?

Drivers - Z-XL, Z-Cyclone, Z-Predator, Leopard, Firebird, Valkyrie,
Approach - Roc, a beat XD and a new XD Putters - Z-Putt'r, Aviar
This game has a hook, and those who get hooked
know what I mean. It is fun, cheap, frustrating and exhilarating. I play
for the competition, even though I am not that competitive yet (Give me
about five more years, I'm a
slow learner), I play for the exercise, and most of all, I play for the
socialization. Other disc golfers seem to have similar personality
traits that work well with each other. I have never been one to play
alone. And I love that my wife plays, and we can enjoy the game
together.

How did you
learn about the game?
Lake Shore Park Disc Golf Course was set up right
near my house, seen some people playing it and they
showed me.
Who introduced you to the game?
Tom Mote, he was one of the people who showed me, he
also taught me different throws and how to be good, but
I don't think it has set in yet.
How long have you been playing?
3 years
Do you play tournaments, which are your favorites?
I try to play in as many tournaments as I can get
to. Some of my favorites are:
Shoot the Breeze Open
Cantons doubles tournament
Duck Run glow tournaments
Medina (the big one in the summer)
What is your favorite disc- the one you cannot
play without!
It depends on which course the XS on long courses,
some short courses I don't throw it. I always need my
MRV as a midrange.
What's in your bag?

3- XS, Xpress, Xtra, Xtream, XL (lots of X's),
Cyclone, Firebird, Valkery, 2 MRV's, MRX, Apex, Magnet, Z-putter (think
that's it)
*WARNING* Once you play disc golf, it will suck
you
in and you will never be able to get out of it because
you love it so much. Have fun !!!!!!
